Tony Jones: "MOL of the Week"
Congratulations to Tony Jones on his selection as MOL of the Week. A truly great distinction (smirk). Check out the article if for no other reaon than to see a Teen Beat picture of Tony. Then read Tony's response. Great insider bs to reinvigorate the mind from all the tryptophan in the Christmas turkey.
(Note the carefully inserted urban myth to incite many comments. Let's see if it works!)
Dear Will,
Thanks for the link.
I think he hit the nail on the head-- all theology is contextual theology. (See his Orignal Sin post.)
I think much of our theology is grounded in a particular culture. One has an expereince of God and the dominant culture defines what that experience means and the manner in which one articulates the expereince.
When one considers Augustine (who was instrumental in the development of OS in a Christian context) and his particular culture and the context of his "conversion" it is realtively understandable as to why he saw humanity as flawed.
I like Moltmann, along with others, but having studied theology at the GTU in Berkeley for 4 years, I find myself most attracted the mystical, intuitive expression and expereince of my faith more so than I do a systematic approach.
Thanks again for the link.

Rick,
Interesting observation. True. I was just doing some thinking on foundationalism this morning. I am continually surprised at how removed from context much of our theology is. That is why for so many people voices like Newbigin and Bosch were transformative in our thinking.
